Looking South on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway

Looking south on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway from the John E. Rankin Memorial Bridge at Fulton on a rainy and breezy day compliments of former tropical storm Faye. In the distance is the old Beans Ferry area. Beans Ferry was a landing on the Tombigbee River during antebellum times and connected eastern Itawamba County with the old river port town of Van Buren.

My McDonald Coleman ancestor based on family notes presumably operated a ferry on the Tombigbee River not too far from Fulton in Itawamba county. looking for any record of such ferry. He lived 1836-1878.

Glen, thank you for your comments. McDonald Coleman is listed in the 1870 Itawamba County census as a ferryman living at old West Fulton on the Tombigbee. He operated the Fulton Ferry on the Fulton and Pontotoc Public Road which later became the Bankhead National Highway and later US Highway 78.
